The Art of Matching Buyers and Sellers
Matching buyers and sellers is an art that takes practice and expertise. When a seller comes to a business broker ready to sell their busy, it is a truly exciting thing. Because the business broker knows that soon they will be hearing from buyers that are ready to buy a business! But this is where a lot of the real work comes in for the broker. They need to ensure that inquiring buyers are qualified buyers and that they suit the business they have an interest in.
In the following blog intro video, Business Broker, Roger Smolik, outlines the process of qualifying and matching buyers to sellers and their business. After watching the intro video Transworld invites you to visit our website (www.tworlddenver.com) to read the full blog post on this subject.
Video Transcript: Hi! I’m Roger Smolik. I’m a Business Broker with Transworld Business Advisors of Denver, and I’d like to share a few ideas on my blog topic about the real importance of working on matching Buyers with Sellers involving business sales.
Each time a new potential buyer inquires about an available business listing, it can be easy to get a bit excited at the possibility of selling a business!
Selling businesses takes a lot of time and effort – usually many months of work - but it’s also how we make a living – and selling the business means that…one way or the other…you’ve crossed the finish line successfully! So… a little enthusiasm for potential new business buyers is very understandable!
However, before we get ahead of ourselves, we need to make sure that the Buyer is a good match for our seller, and for the business.
Finding a buyer – any buyer – for a business, without evaluating the suitability of the business to the buyer, doesn’t generally result in a stable business transaction. The art of business brokerage involves more than finding any buyer with financial capacity.
It does involve qualifying the buyer financially as an essential fundamental baseline – you do need to separate your suspects from your genuine prospects!
Then, try to match that buyer’s personal interests, individual capabilities and overall suitability to a specific business that will meet both the Buyer’s and the Seller’s expectations, and give all parties involved the best opportunity to realize a lasting and positive outcome. Create a win win situation for everyone!
To help qualify Buyers, we interview them to better understand their personal motivations, goals and objectives as well as to help screen some attractive business options for their consideration.
Some of the core issues a broker needs to consider are the buyer’s financial capacity, their general business and work background, personality, leadership, and their management expectations.
At Transworld, we work hard to complete Good Deals with Good People! To learn more about this subject in greater detail, I encourage you to read my entire blog post.
