Seller Financing
Financing the purchase of a business is not generally a topic of issue for the seller. But it should be! Seller financing is a great way to support the sale of your business and create added value for both the seller and the buyer!

Video Transcript: Hi, I am Ross Haymes, a business broker with Transworld Business Advisors of Denver. Today I’m talking about tools of the trade.
This topic got me thinking about when I graduated from college and moved out to my first apartment. Fortunately, my father was there to help me get set up. He was an advertising executive in his day job, but one of his favorite hobbies was woodworking.
So along with bringing his car – which was equipped with a trailer hitch to pull the U-Haul - he brought a toolbox he had made for me in his shop. It was a sturdy wood box that he had stocked with some basic tools that he knew I would need in setting up my first place. I still have that toolbox!
Fast-forward to the more recent past, and I see a parallel to my initial broker training class at Transworld headquarters. Our instructor was a veteran broker with several decades of experience, and his job was to provide us with the tools we needed to do our jobs.
A key tool he introduced was Seller Financing. This is where the owner of a business agrees to take part of the purchase price of that business as a promissory note which is paid back over time by the buyer.
